Secure Jobs Act

Right now, you can be fired at any time for almost any reason. Or no reason at all. This is called at-will employment and it’s the norm throughout the United States.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Workers in many other countries, as well as fast food workers and certain union workers in NYC have just cause protection, meaning they cannot be fired without a valid reason (aka a just cause).

The Secure Jobs Act (SJA) seeks to extend that protection to all New York City workers. The bill was introduced to City Council by Tiffany Caban, and it has several co-sponsors. We are very excited to be working with Make the Road NY, which is leading a coalition of unions, community groups, and workers’ organizations.
